CHIEF INSTRUCTORS

Two Rivers Aikido - Mark

Mark Leitzel, LCPC, Dojo Cho

While Mark had an introduction to Aikido at an early age, “On the Mat” formal study of Aikido began in 1992 with Eric Lehrman Ph,D. at JFK University as part of graduate studies in transpersonal and somatic psychology. There are many institutions, organizations, and teachers who have passed on their knowledge, skill, and wisdom to help shape the art that Mark aspires to embody and pass on. And as a veteran Mark understands the delicate balance between seeking community (global) peace and and working to resolve the conflicts that interrupt it both individually and collectively.

Mark's current exploration is an integrated study in the disciplines of Aikido, Yoga, Tai ji, Qi Gong, Internal Energy, and the psychology of transpersonal somatics. It has become clear in his study that the integration of these disciplines can be a path of awakening and a way to truly embody Peace and the actualization of what it means to be authentically and fully human.

To this end: He happily applies the principles and practices of these varied disciplines “Off the Mat” in his daily life. As a trauma therapist for 30 years; in his psychotherapy practice and in his consulting and training venues he offers a platform for in-depth transformational work, healing, spiritual direction, and grounded practical life skill development for groups and individuals.

Leigh Schickendantz - Two Rivers Aikido

Leigh Schickendantz, LCPC, Dojo Cho

Leigh began her study of foundational Aikido principles beginning in 1987 through George Leonard Energy Training. Since that time, Leigh's Aikido has been influenced by numerous authentic and sincere Senseis who hold and practice the art far beyond simply the martial.

Leigh recognizes that the art has its roots in the inherent harmony of creation and the work of aikido is learning to see it, experience it, and live it. One of her favorite O' Sensei sayings informs the platform of her on-going study: We are here for no other reason than to celebrate our inner divinity and our innate enlightenment.

In addition to teaching Aikido, she is a certified Qi Gong instructor, and she is rounding the corner of three decades as a licensed trauma therapist. Leigh integrates and includes elemental aspects of her study of aikido, trauma, somatic psychology, and contemplative spiritual disciplines into her aikido classes, workshops, and seminars.

Leigh and her husband Mark are the founders of: Two Rivers Aikido, Two Rivers Consulting, and Braided Way Peace Collective.
